Second Sunday of Advent

originally published on December 6, 2020

In the Gospel this Sunday, John the Baptist’s disciples seek out Jesus to ask if He is the One that is to come or should we expect another.

Jesus replies in the language of the prophets of old: the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead rise, and the poor have the gospel preached to them. These signs should clearly indicate that the Christ has come, and the long wait for the Messiah is over.

To prepare ourselves, then, for this Messiah, the Christ of God, we must, at His gentle knock, open the door of our hearts to him in faith, and standing in the doorway, bid him welcome and move aside, allowing Him passage into the home of our heart!
