We Remember: Apollo 1

originally published on January 27, 2021

On January 27, 1967, a tragic fire broke out in the Command Module of Apollo 1 (previously designated as AS-204) during a launch test killing all three members of the crew: Virgin I. “Gus” Grissom, Edward H. White II, and Roger B. Chaffee.

There was a congressional investigation into the incident, and the craft was redesigned to be safer. Regardless of that, three irreplaceable crew members were dead.

We remember.
